Charpentier: Music for the Blessed Virgin Mary

A wide range of sacred works by Marc-Antoine Charpentier celebrating the Blessed Virgin Mary. The output of Charpentier is one of the richest sources of French Baroque music for dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the high concentration of works by Charpentier honouring the Virgin also reflects the composer's career. Included here are different texts (hymns, antiphons, psalms, litanies, oratorio), musical styles (showing Charpentier's French and Italian influences) and scorings (single and few-voiced through to triple choir).
