Philip Moore has a strong association with York, where he was Organist and Director of the Music at York Minster for 26 years, but particularly since his retirement in 2008 he has enjoyed increasing and deserved recognition as a leading English composer of choral music. The Ebor Singers has also enjoyed collaborating with Philip Moore over two decades. Philip is the choir's President, and we have enjoyed singing his music (and commissioning it too) in both a liturgical or concert context on a regular basis. We will be including Philip's music throughout our forthcoming season, but it seemed fitting to devote a whole concert to him, and the programme will include the three-choir St John Mass and the cantata Canticle of Light, alongside smaller scale anthems and featuring music by Ralph Vaughan Williams, a composer who has influenced Philip.
