Earthrise | Spem in alium

Saturday 25 May at 7.30pm

The Chapter House, York Minster

Tickets: £15, £12 (concessions), £5 (students on the door)

Earthrise is a photograph of Earth and some of the Moon's surface that was taken from lunar orbit by astronaut Bill Anders on December 24, 1968, during the Apollo 8 mission.  Seven months later, in July 1969, Apollo 11 landed on the moon.

We celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing with Alec Roth's 40-part choral piece Earthrise, performed alongside the musical inspiration for this work, Thomas Tallis' Spem in alium, as well as  Sleep by Whitacre and Stars by Ä’riks Ešenvalds.  These works will be performed in "surround-sound", using the unique acoustical properties of the Chapter House to full effect.
