The output of Marc-Antoine Charpentier (c.1643-1704) is one of the richest sources of French Baroque music dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the high concentration of works by Charpentier honouring the Virgin also reflects the composer's career. Included here are a wide range of liturgical and paraliturgical forms (hymns, antiphons, psalms, litanies, oratorio), musical styles (showing Charpentier's French and Italian influences) - scorings (single and few-voiced through to triple choir).
