These
pages reflect the research I have undertaken over the last few years.
Primarily, there is the work from my PhD thesis, where I examined
the importance of one manuscript of sacred music now held in the
Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris. This manuscript source counters
the impression that there was little progressive musical development
in France of the generation before Lully and Charpentier. Composers
of this period include Bouzignac, Boesset (Antoine and Jean-Baptiste),
Moulinié and, most prolific of all, Anon.
My other research areas of interest include English music and society
from the mid-seventeenth century, the English choral tradition,
and film music (especially John Barry!).
I hope these musings will be accepted in the informal and anecdotal
spirit they are given. Please contact me if you want further details
of my research.
