The Ebor Singers was formed by Paul Gameson in 1995. The group includes past and present music students at the University, some of whom also pursue solo careers.
When performing works requiring instrumental forces, the choir draws on high-calibre early-music specialists. Now well-established in the North of England as a versatile chamber group, the choir sings its regular concert series in York Minster and other city-centre churches to capacity audiences.
The choir has been broadcast on Radio 3 and Classic FM, appeared on Channel 4 and BBC4, recorded on NMC Records with The Hilliard Ensemble, performed with the Orlando Consort, and worked with Peter Philips.
As well as its regular concert series held in York Minster and other beautiful venues in York, the choir has a growing reputation nationally as well as in the north-east. DUSK SONGS has been enthusiastically received by audiences in the UK and Germany and is to be toured nationally. Recent CD recordings have received impressive reviews in the media. The choir's ongoing education and outreach work is committed to encouraging and promoting music in schools, in particular generating creative and performance opportunities through singing and composition.
